Letter from Edward Byles Cowell to Brian Houghton Hodgson to thank him for the list of Sanskrit Buddhist books that he had sent. He writes of Max Müller's interesting lecture on the Sukhāvatīvyūha found in Japan. He requests that Hodgson search for a copy of the Dharmakośa (a copy of the commentary on this text by Yaśomitra was already available in Cambridge) and writes of Cowell's lecture to students on the Lalitavistara (Hodgson finally found the text of Dharmakośa compiled by Amritananda Bandya of Patan in Nepal and has been published by the Royal Nepal Academy).
