Report from The Englishman, Calcutta, "The Asiatic Celebrations" regarding the gathering of distinguished Orientalists to celebrate the Centenary of the Royal Asiatic Society.

"The Asiatic Society, Calcutta" - a typed report about the structures and state of the Asiatic Society after a visit when the report's author had been in Calcutta. Signed and dated "JAP / 12.2.1992".

Newspaper cutting from the Madras Weekly Mail for 25 October 1900, with article entitled "The Asiatic Society's Gold Medal" in which it is reported about how the medal was founded to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It reports that a considerable sum of money has been raised by the Madras Presidency and names contributors and donations. It is reported that their contribution will enable the award to become an annual event.
This money was in fact used to set up and fund The Public Schools Gold Medal which in turn became the Universities Prize Essay Fund. The Gold Medal remained as a triennial award.

A handwritten draft about The Authorized Version of the Bible

The Barwis-Holliday was established in 1977 by the donation of investments to the value of £690 by Major J.E. Barwis-Holliday and supplemented by a bequest of £1,000 from the estate of the donor. The income was to be used to finance a monetary award for a paper upon a Far-Eastern subject to be published in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society. These papers consist of material created in the administration and conferment of the award.

5 copies of the draft for the article "The Beloved Disciple" and a copy of the article extracted from its magazine publication. The drafts are marked Folkestone so suggest the article dates from the time of Bate's retirement

"The Bhuga of Mahanundi" A Paper sent by Newbold to the Royal Asiatic Society on thermal springs in South India. He gives their location and a detailed description. A note at the head of the paper in pencil reads "Read Jan 14th 1843". With the Paper is also a label, "Thermal Springs of Mahamandi by Capt Newbold, Read 14 January 1843".

As part of the 175th Anniversary celebrations a lecture was held at the British Library. Given by Dr. Barbara Brend it was entitled "The Book of Kings: The Juki Shahnama of the Royal Asiatic Society". This material is concerned with the organising and advertising of this lecture.
