These Papers consist of:

• A Letter from Stephen Gaselee, Librarian and Keeper of the Papers at the Foreign Office, to The Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to send copies of the title page and preface to a translation of certain correspondence of His Imperial Majesty Nasir-ud-Sin, Shah of Persia from 1848 to 1896, made by Mr. A.C. Trott, formerly Oriental Secretary to his Majesty's Legation at Tehran. These are supplied for scholarly use only. He informs that the original volume of the Shah's letters and the accompanying translation are to be presented to the British Museum. Typed letter, 2 pieces, dated 30 June 1938.
• A handwritten title page stressing the use for students and scholars only. 1 piece, handwritten.
• Copy of Preface and Title Page for "Correspondence of His Imperial Majesty Nasir-ud-Din, Shah of Persia from 1848-1896, collected by Mirza Abd-ul-Wahhab Khan Nuri, Nizam-ul-Mulk, a grandson of Mirza Aga Khan, Itmed-ud-Dauleh, Chief Minister of Nasir-ud-Din Shah from 1851 to 1858, and a son of Mirza Kazim Khan, Nizam-ul-Mulk, the holder at different times of various ministerial appointments, and translated by Mr. A.C. Trott, Oriental Secretary to His Majesty's Legation at Tehran from 1931 to 1937." 6 pieces, typed.

The Papers of Alexander Gerard consist of a single item - his "Memoir on the Situation of Bundelcund (Bundelkhand) in 1803" which, the manuscript notes, was presented to the Society by Captain A. Gerard on 3 May 1828. This document commences with the accession of Chatter Saul Singh who raised the power and influence of his kingdom. However on his death the area was thrown into confusion by competing claims of rival princes. Nana Fadnavis annexed the kingdom to the Mahratta territories. The document gives tables of descent for the Rajah of Punna and the Rajah of Bindi and statements of annual revenue. Gerard was not in India in 1803 so this is written as a history rather than a personal memoir. Handwritten manuscript, 23 pages, with additional label which states, "Catalogue of English MSS. IV, No. 13, Bundelkhund in 1803, Presented by Captn. A. Gerard".

The Papers of Alexander Johnston consists of manuscripts written by Johnston, commissioned by him, or simply presented by him to the Society. These are:

• Portfolio of material donated by Sir Alexander Johnston to the Royal Asiatic Society
• 'A Summary of the Principle Evidence for the Truth, Divine Origin of the Christian Revelation' by Beilby, Lord Bishop of London, translated J.G. Philips & C. de Saram into Sinhalese.
• "Moses in the Bulrushes - A Sacred Drama" and "Joseph" by Hannah More, translations in Sinhalese.
• Report on tumuli or barrows in the Sardis region (Turkey) by George Hale.

This collection contains correspondence between Abraham Poliak and the Secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society (Diana Crawford), concerning the proposed reprint of Poliak's publication, Feudalism in Egypt, Syria, Palestine, and the Lebanon 1250-1900. This was originally published in 1939 funded by the Society's Prize Publication Fund.

Due to Poliak's death in 1970, the proposed reprint never came to fruition, The collection also contains three notebooks of draft amendments made by Poliak.

• 'Identifications of Copies of Paintings in the Ajanta Caves Completed by Robert Gill in the Period 1845-1863' by Colmán McLaughlin. The manuscript is dated as 'Final Draft 1/21/2010'. Computer printed, 36 pieces.
• Copies of emails between Colmán McLaughlin and the Royal Asiatic Society concerning obtaining documents for this research. He also includes a transcript of a submission by the Royal Asiatic Society to the East India Company Honourable Court of Directors concerning the appointment of Robert Gill as artist and photographer at the Ajanta Caves and subsequent correspondence, computer printed, 11 pieces, dated 19 July 2004 - 10 July 2009.

Parts 2,3,4 and 5 of the 'Etymological Vocabulary of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Ainu' by Johannes Rahder of Yale University. The second and third parts were privately printed in 1959, the fourth in 1960 and the fifth in 1962, all in New Haven Connecticut, USA. These are typed manuscripts.

• Part 2 runs from page 75-157 with ten pages of Abbreviations and a title page. On this first page of the text is the handwritten note 'pages 1-74 form the first part of J. Rahder's Etymological Vocabulary of Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Ainu (first edition printed in Tokyo 1956 as Monograph 16 of Monumenta Nipponica, Sophia Univ; 2nd revised and enlarged edition New Haven 1960).' • Part 3 has a title page and 66 pages of content. Foolscap sheets.
• Part 4 has a title page, three preface pages and 38 pages of content. Foolscap sheets.
• Part 5 has a title page, 1 preface page and 45 pages of content. Sheets 28cm x 22cm.

The 'Index of Languages' taken from the 'Historical Catalogue of the Printed Editions of Holy Scripture in the Library of the British and Foreign Bible Society' by Horace Frederick Moule and Thomas Herbert Darlow, London, 1903-1911. This is a handwritten copy made into a table over 72 sheets with the headings Language, Where Spoken, Family of Languages, Characters used by Bible Society for printing, and Remarks. With the index is a typed covering page which indicates that this is not a complete list but comprises only of those languages and dialects into which the Bible had been translated. At the top of the page the date 1936 has been crossed out and replaced with 1937.

This archive consists of correspondence, documentation, reports and allied material concerned with the loans of the Collections of the Society to other institutions predominantly for exhibition but sometimes for more long-term care. The Society has not kept comprehensive records throughout its history. Further information pertaining to the Loans from the Society can be found in the Minutes for the meetings of the Council and Library Committees. Loans continue in the life of the Society. More recent ones are held in the Society's records management system and will be transferred to the archive in due course.

The papers consist of correspondence mainly concerned with Pankhurst's interest and research into Ethiopia, a small amount of printed material, photographs, and Abstracts and Papers from the First International Conference on the History of Ethiopian Art which was convened by Pankhurst in 1986.

This archive consists of correspondence, documentation, reports and allied material concerned with the conservation of the Collections of the Society. The Society has not kept comprehensive records throughout its history. Further information pertaining to the conservation of the collections may be found in the Minutes for the meetings of the Council and Library Committees. Conservation continues in the life of the Society. More recent records are held in the Society's records management system and will be transferred to the archive in due course.
