This correspondence covers the time that Manning spent in France, mainly in Paris and at Chateau de Serrant. It holds historical interest because Manning was held in France at the outbreak of the Napoleonic Wars and the letters include both official and personal correspondence dating from that time. Correspondence from Andrew Topsfield, Victoria and Albert Museum, to Raymond Head concerning the Royal Asiatic Society's Tod Collection:

• Letter from Andrew Topsfield to Raymond Head to inform that he has worked through the Tod material loaned to the V&A museum and has edited the entries. He asks for Head to come and see them. He also writes that he is concerned about preparing a note on the Tod Collections. He writes of other similar material in a private collection in San Francisco and at the Chandigarh Museum. Dated 19 October 1982.
• Letter from Andrew Topsfield to Raymond Head to inform that the cloth-painting of Ketelaar's camp was published by E. Penkala where it was wrongly called a Mughal painting. The identification of the painting was made by T. Clowney-Morris. Dated 29 March [1983]
• Letter from Andrew Topsfield to Raymond Head regarding the ordering of the Jaipur ragamala and asking for Head to check his spellings. Dated 22 August 1983.
• Letter from Andrew Topsfield to Raymond Head regarding the snakes and ladders picture, a copy of which Head has sent to Topsfield. He wonders if it would be possible for Head to bring it to the V&A to be photographed. He writes he is re-reading Tod's Annals. Dated 25 November 1983.
• Letter from Andrew Topsfield to Raymond Head to write he found another version of Tod on an elephant reproduced on the cover of Angus Wilson's "The strange ride of Rudyard Kipling". Dated 27 February 1984.
• Letter from Andrew Topsfield to Raymond Head to state that he has located the V&A portrait of Maharaja Ali Jah Daulat Rao Sindhia Bahadur. He gives a description of the portrait but cannot find out its early provenance. Dated 21 March 1984.

Two letters from Angus Graham to Henry Rosemont concerning Rosemont's publication, Against relativism, on which Graham comments and then highlights how his own thinking has moved on.

Two letters from Angus Graham to Tim [Moore] to ask for his help on Derrida's philosophy.

Correspondence from Arthur G. Clarke to Angus Graham. These are: Letter from Arthur Clarke to Angus Graham thanking Graham for sending his work, Yin-yang and the nature of correlative thinking and expressing his views on what is needed in the scholarship of I Ching. Letter from Arthur G Clarke to Angus Graham in which he writes about his learning and asks for further recommendations. He sends a copy of his article to Graham. Originally located with a copy of Clarke's The rate of Change in the I Ching (Graham Collection).

Three letters written by Arthur West to Dr. James Burgess. These are:

• Letter, dated 26 February 1906, in which West writes both of his brother, Edward's death in 1905, and that he has all the 'Indian Cave papers' which he is sending to Burgess to use as he needs.
• Letter, dated 1 March 1906, in which West expresses his pleasure that the Cave notes and drawings may be published and puts them at the service of Burgess.
• Letter, dated 14 March 19906, to enclose 'a memo of our Cave experiences in India'.

These 2 letters concern the acquisition of statues that Thomas Manning has purchased on behalf of the Barings. They are:

• Letter to Thomas Manning from Augustus [Trestner] regarding Manning's acquisition of the statues Gladiator and Boy & Swan. He thanks Manning for Mr and Mrs Baring's invitation. Addressed to Manning in Florence. Dated Rome, 17 June 1828. Handwritten, 1 piece, 2 sides.
• Letter to Thomas Manning from Augustus [Trestner] to inform Manning that his statues have been packed and dispatched. He has supervised the packing and gives advice on how to unpack them. He asks to be informed of their arrival. Addressed to Manning at the apartment of M. Baring. Dated Rome, 3 July, 1828. Handwritten, 1 piece, 3 sides.

Fourteen items of correspondence from Darab Dastur Peshotan Sanjana to Edward William West. The topic of these letters are the translation of a Denkart, K43, and other questions about translation. The two exchange some of their texts during this period and Sanjana thanks West for helping with the collation of the discrepanies in Sanjana's late father's manuscript. Identified as part of West 57A in de Menasce handlist.

Correspondence from Derek Gladwyn. These are:

• Letter from Derek Gladwyn to Raymond Head to inform him that he had seen the painting at the National Maritime Museum about which he had asked Head. It was in their stores and he warns Head that they need a week's notice to view the item. Handwritten, dated 18 March 1984.
• Copy of a letter from Derek Gladwyn to the Curator, Print Room, National Maritime Museum, to ask for permission to view two paintings of the Trial of Four British Seaman at Canton. Typed, dated 19 March 1984.

This series contains 2 letters from Edward Fitzgerald to Bernard Quaritch concerning Fitzgerald's translation of The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám.
