A set of three items which are copies of various letters from Brian Houghton Hodgson to his father, Brian (or Bryan) Hodgson (1766–1858) covering the period 1843-1844, particularly concerning Hodgson's disagreement with the policy of Lord Ellenborough concerning Nepal.

Copies of extracts from Letters,1841-1842. Extracts from despatches sent to Hodgson concerning his negotiations with the Rajah of Nepal, praising Hodgson's tactics and success. Handwritten, 2 sides, dated 23 December 1841 - 7 March 1842.

Correspondence with Sir Rutherford Alcock, KCB (1809 - 1897) who was the first British diplomatic representative to live in Japan. This is a set of five letters between Hodgson and Alcock, dating to 1873.

Letter from John Marshman to Brian Hodgson, 15 September 1843. Marshman is sending a letter from Brian Houghton Hodgson to his father which Marshman has also had opportunity to read. He writes that he missed the August despatch but that it enables him to add that Lord Ellenborough has not renewed Hodgson's position for another year. Major Lawrence has been appointed as successor. Marshman continues to praise Brian Houghton Hodgson's endeavours despite Lord Ellenborough's behaviour towards him. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 15 September 1843.

Letter from Joseph Hooker to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he writes that he is still imprisoned and is unsure of the Dewar's plans for them. He keeps occupied by puzzling about geographical matters. Handwritten, 12 sides, dated 16 December 1849.
