Biographical history
Little is known about the translator of this text. The letters of correspondence within the volumes indicate that Chalmers was a Lieutenant in the Madras Army.

The volumes were translated by Robert Chalmers and taken charge of by Mrs Chase, who forwarded them onto the Royal Asiatic Society's rooms in Grafton Street.
Immediate source of acquisition or transfer
The volumes were sent by Mrs Chase to the Royal Asiatic Society for consideration for possible publication by the Oriental Translation Committee.
