Correspondence concerned with the future of the India Office Library in 1948 and again in 1961.

Throughout its history the Royal Asiatic Society has made links with various universities. Perhaps most notable is that with the School of Oriental Studies (Now School of African and Oriental Studies), University of London, for which the Royal Asiatic Society had a representative on the Governing Body for many years. Material in these papers includes connections between the Royal Asiatic Society and the School for Oriental Studies, the University of Catania, Sicily, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the University of Hong Kong, and the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford.

Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to bring to the Society's attention that the present appointment of Governors will terminate in August 1935 and to ask for the Society to inform him of their representative for the forthcoming five years. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 20 February 1935.
• Letter from Col Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to inform him that Sir Edward D. Maclagan would represent the Society for the forthcoming five years. Typed, dated 15 March 1935.
• Letter from G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for the letter notifying of Maclagan's appointment, Typed with printed letterhead, dated 18 March 1935.
• Letter from Col Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to inform him that Sir Edward D. Maclagan was no longer able to represent the Society and he would be replaced by Sir Oliver Wardrop. Typed, dated 19 November 1935.
• Letter from G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for his letter notifying of the change of representative. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 20 November 1935.

In 1938 the School of Oriental Studies became the School of Oriental and African Studies by a change in its charter. The Society also holds correspondence from this later time period:

• Correspondence between J.R. Bracken, Secretary, School of Oriental and African Studies, and the Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform that the Society's representative on the university's Governing Body term of office was to expire and to confirm that Mr Dennis J. Duncanson would be reinstated. Typed with handwritten annotations, 3 letters, dated 11 February -21 April 1980.

Material concerned with the Indian Collection at the South Kensington Museum. These are:

• Letter to the Under Secretary of State for India regarding provision of care for the Indian Collection and that it be kept as a unit. Printed, unsigned and undated.
• Letter from Lord Reay, President, Royal Asiatic Society, to the Secretary of State for India to express, on behalf of the Council of the Royal Asiatic Society, their concern regarding the Indian collection at the South Kensington Museum. The collection originated in 1879 when miscellaneous collections from the old East India House were transferred to the Museum. The request is for funds to adequately care for the collections. Typed, dated 12 May 1911. There is also an earlier draft version of this letter, typed with handwritten annotations and labelled, "Sir M. A. Stein's original draft".
• Letter from R. Ritchie, India Office, to Lord Reay, President, Royal Asiatic Society, to advise that when the Collections were transferred one of the stipulations was that no charge should henceforth fall on the revenues of India, and therefore responsibility rest with the Victoria and Albert Museum to provide suitable staff and care. Typed, dated 24 June 1911.
• Newspaper article from The Morning Post entitled "Mr Runciman and an Indian Museum", concerning the care of the Indian Collection. Printed, dated 19 July 1911.
• "List of contacts of various organisations concerned with the Indian Collections and a list of Members of the Royal Asiatic Society Council. Handwritten, undated.
• "The Indian Collection at South Kensington: Deputation to the President of the Board of Education" concerning the Indian Collection. Typed report of the deputation received on 12 December 1912.
• Letter from J.H. Headley to Miss Hughes, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, expressing his opinion on the two leading Indian papers on the Museum. Handwritten, dated 20 January 1913.

• Invitation from the Wellcome Archaeological Research Expedition to the Near East to the Annual Exhibition of Antiquities from Tell Duweir (Lachish), Palestine from the 1934-1935 season excavations. Printed, 1 piece.
• Letter from Fiona Easton, Administrative Assistant, Hakluyt Society, to Professor Francis Robinson, President, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the possibility of a joint memorial meeting to commemorate the life of Professor C.F. Beckingham. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 4 November 1998.
• Letter from Lilla Russell-Smith, Editor, Circle of Inner Asian Art, to Adrian Thomas, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to inquire of the possibility of using rooms at the Royal Asiatic Society for a base for their activities, Typed with printed letterhead, dated 28 June 2002.
• "Cooperation Protocol between Yunus Emre Institue and Royal Asiatic Society" - an agreement between the two organisations to work together, dated 7 May 2011.

A receipt from Lloyds Bank Limited, 16 St. James's Street, London, S.W.1 to Hon. Mrs. D.G. Hare to inform her that her account has been credited with £300 from the National Providential Bank, Bradford Row. 1 item, printed material with handwritten inserts.

The 17th International Congress of Orientalists, fixed to be held in Oxford in 1915, was abandoned due to the First World War. In September 1919, Orientalists, principally from the Royal Asiatic Society, Société Asiatique, American Oriental Society and Scuolà Orientale - R. Università di Roma, with representatives from other nations, gathered to discuss the future of Oriental Studies. This was hosted by the Royal Asiatic Society and included a series of lectures, various receptions including a visit to the British Museum and to Kew Gardens, and culminated with a Banquet held at the Imperial Restaurant, Regent Street, on Saturday 6 September. The allied papers iconsist of printed material and newspaper cuttings concerned with the Joint Session of the Royal Asiatic Society, the Société Asiatique, American Oriental Society and the Scuola Orientale-R. Università di Roma hosted by the Royal Asiatic Society, 3-6 September 1919.
