Institutionele geschiedenis
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Bereik en inhoud
Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to James Cosmo Melvill, Secretary, East India Company, in which the Council asks for permission from the East India Company to print the memoirs of Captain Felix Jones to accompany his map of the site of ancient Ninevah which is being engraved for the East India Company. The Royal Asiatic Society would supply copies to the East India Company and in return would like copies of the engraved map. The 'package' of memoir and map would be available for members and general circulation. This package in conjunction with 'the labour of Col. Rawlinson' is thought to be of real interest.
