Sir Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff GCSI CIE PC FRS (21 February 1829 – 12 January 1906), known as M. E. Grant Duff before 1887 and as Sir Mountstuart Grant Duff thereafter, was a Scottish politician, administrator and author. He served as the Under-Secretary of State for India from 1868 to 1874, Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1880 to 1881 and the Governor of Madras from 1881 to 1886.

Letter from M.E. Grant Duff to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he writes that he read with interest Hodgson's letter of the 21st and that after showing Hodgson's first letter to Sir Rutherford Alcock has forwarded it to the Viceroy. Grant Duff writes that Mr Cooper is no longer in England. In a postscript W.N. Hunt, Private Secretary, adds that all the copies of Mr Dalton's book have already been distributed. Handwritten with embossed letterhead, 3 sides, dated 27 March 1873. Also accompanying envelope with Hodgson's annotations.
