In 1923 the Royal Asiatic Society celebrated its Centenary. This archival material contains a scrapbook with Centenary correspondence and invitations, further congratulatory correspondence, material concerning the Centenary Events, and correspondence concerning the publication of a Centenary Volume.

Letter from the President and Council of the Royal Asiatic Society to request the presence of Representatives of Societies at the celebration of the Society's Centenary and to communicate the titles from those who propose to read papers at the event. The President is Lord Chalmers of Northiam.

Notice sent by the Entente Committee of the Royal Asiatic Society to solicit papers for the proceedings of the Centenary meetings. There will be four different sections: The Ancient Far East; The Ancient East; India; and Islam.

Letter from His Majesty's Commission of Works to Lord Chalmers, President of Royal Asiatic Society, agreeing to host a luncheon by the Government Hospitality Fund for 100 people on 17 July 1923 to celebrate the Centenary of the Royal Asiatic Society. A further handwritten note informs that Mr Beare called at the Royal Asiatic Society on 27 April and met Lord Chalmers. The Government offered a lunch for 100 guests at the Ritz or Claridge's. The letter is loose within the book.

Invitation from The First Commissioner of Works, on behalf of His Majesty's Government, to attend a Luncheon at Claridge's Hotel on Tuesday 17 July, 1.15 for 1.30 pm. The Right Honorable Viscount Peel, G.B.E. will preside. This invitation is addressed to Dr Johannes Pedersen, (1883-1977) who was a noted Danish Old Testament scholar and Semitic philologist.
