Administrative history
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Correspondence concerning printing of invitations and postcards. These are:
- Letter from Noel Guina, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to John Villiers, Director Royal Asiatic Society, to send a quote from SSB, stationery suppliers, for printing the invitations. A copy of this quote is with the letter.
- Letter dated 14 April 1998. Letter from Noel Guina, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to John Streeting, Social Service Supplies, to request they fulfill the order for 1000 invitation cards. A sample of the invitation is with this letter.
- Letter dated 12 May 1998. Letter from C.C.F. Naylor, Honorary Treasurer, Royal Asiatic Society, to Alasdair Macleod, British Museum Press, to confirm the order for postcards for the exhibition, dated 27 May 1998.
