Attached to the letter is a newspaper cutting from the Daily Telegraph to state that Professor Beckingham had given a lecture, before a reception to celebrate the 160th anniversary of the Royal Asiatic Society at which D.J. Duncanson, President, had received guests including the Ambassador of Thailand, the Earl of Cranbrook, the Earl and Countess of Selkirk and Dr Michael Tweedie. Dated 11 March 1983.

Letter from Tan Sri Dato' Mubin Sheppard, Honorary Secretary of The Malaysian Branch of The Royal Asiatic Society, to Dr D.J. Duncanson, President of the Royal Asiatic Society, to report that the Council of the Society has nominated the Earl of Cranbrook and Dr. Michael Tweedie to represent the Society at the Royal Asiatic Society's 160th Anniversary celebrations. They will send a short message from their President and copies of their two latest monographs for the Library.

He doubts that his wife will be able to join him. The Message which he has been asked to read will take 3 minutes to deliver and he discusses the books that are to be presented from the Malaysian Branch of the Society.

Duncanson, President of Royal Asiatic Society, to enclose seven photographs of the 160th Anniversary Celebrations and to inform him that he has sent two to Lord Cranbrook and he will send the negatives to Kuala Lumpar. With accompanying 7 black and white photographs of the event.

In 1998, the Royal Asiatic Society celebrated its 175th anniversary with an exhibition, "Persian and Indian Manuscripts and Paintings from the Collection of the Royal Asiatic Society" at the British Museum, and a lecture, "The Book of Kings: The Juki Shahnama of the Royal Asiatic Society" by Dr Barbara Brend, held at the British Library. This material covers the planning, publicity and attendance at these events. Also in conjunction with the exhibition, the publication Persian Paintings in the Collection of the Royal Asiatic Society by B.W. Robinson was published.
