              There are two types of agreements:

              • Memorandum of agreement for 20th December 1989, for Cambridge University Press to publish the Journal from 1 January 1991. Also further Memoranda of agreement for 22 December 2005, with Addenda to this agreement made on 28 February 2008, 27 May 2008 and 19 February 2009, and for 14 April 2010 with an Addendum for 3 August 2011. (The current agreement is held within the office records.)
              • JSTOR Publication License Agreement between Cambridge University Press and the Royal Asiatic Society with a contract date of 31 August 2005, and a further agreement dated 18 January 2007 (2 copies).

              Correspondence and Administrative Documents made in the course of the interaction between Cambridge University Press and the Royal Asiatic Society. Of the many documents made in the course of the interaction, these have been kept as of potential archival value. They are:

              • 'RAS Journal: Proposal From Cambridge University Press', detailing services offered and potential costs. Undated [1989].
              • Correspondence regarding copyright and permissions, three letters, dated 1- 10 August 1990.
              • A letter to subscribers announcing that the Journal will be published by Cambridge University Press from January 1991 and advising how to pay their subscriptions, dated 13 October 1990.
              • Letter from Jill Walden, Cambridge University Press, to Lydia Wright, Royal Asiatic Society, to sum up their meeting and confirm the agreements reached regarding the Journal, dated 22 October 1990.
              • Notice from David Morgan, Honorary Editor, for the Publications Committee of 16 May 1991 to address concerns raised in the President's letter regarding the publication of the Journal by Cambridge University Press, dated 2 May 1991.
              • Advertising letter for the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society and Modern Asian Studies produced by Cambridge University Press, dated 8 October 1992.

              Correspondence with Han-Shan Tang Ltd. regarding the possibility of purchasing or becoming an agent for the sale of the Society's offprints. There are eight letters negotiating the terms of the agreement, the sale of current offprints, and subsequently the return of the offprints when Han-Shan Tang Ltd. failed to keep to the terms of the contract.

              Correspondence with David Loman Ltd. regarding the purchase of offprints of the Society's Journal. The company asked to initially buy 4000 at a cost of £1000 and then a further 26,500 over the succeeding year. His offer was turned down by the Society's Publications Committee.

              Correspondence between the Royal Asiatic Society and Fine Books Oriental concerning a catalogue for the offprints of the Society's Journal. The file contains both agreements and correspondence between the two parties as well as internal communication within the Royal Asiatic Society and administrative documents concerning preparation for a launch party for the catalogue. The correspondents include Valery Gibson and Gordon Calver for the Royal Asiatic Society and J.I. Somers for Fine Books Oriental. During this period Fine Books Oriental came under the Luzac's umbrella but continued to act independently.

              Transliteration Schemes

              Correspondence concerning the transliteration of scripts for use in the Journal. During the 1930s there was concern regarding the printing of non-Latin alphabet scripts. This generated correspondence and administrative documents:

              • Correspondence concerning the transliteration of Tibetan. The main correspondents are F.W. Thomas, H.W. Bailey, D.S. Margoliouth and Colonel Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society. 16 pieces, dated 20 October 1937 - 31 October 1938.
              • Correspondence concerning the transliteration of Chinese and Japanese script. The main correspondents are W. Perceval Yetts, S. Yoshutake, Sir Harold Parlett and Colonel Hoysted. 16 pieces, dated 26 July 1938- 1 December 1938.
              • Correspondence and administrative documents concerning transliteration of all scripts. The main correspondents are the Deutsche Morgenlandische Gesellschaft, W. Perceval Yetts and Colonel Hoysted. 11 items, dated 11 January 1939 - 10 November 1939.

              Correspondence concerned with seeking permission for articles originally published in the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society to be reprinted in other publications. There are seven examples of requests from individuals and institutions. On the converse, requests are made from Journal authors to other institutions for permission to use images within their article. There are three examples of these.
