They had considered 6 candidates and the Committee recommends that these names be put on record for the use of further committees. Their second choice was Sir Harold Bailey (see RAS TGM/26). The letter is handwritten and signed by the members of the Committee - John Burton-Page, Professor Edward Ullendorff and H.C. Shorto. Dated 26 June 1968. With this letter is a handwritten note to the Director recommending Sir Harold Bailey and a letter from E.H.S. Simmonds to John Burton-Page, also recommending Harold Bailey. This is typed and dated 14 June 1968.
