Six letters from William Macbean George Colebrooke to Sir Alexander Johnston in which he corresponds, among other things, concerning the beginnings of the Asiatic Society in London.

The Programme for the Tenth International Conference of Ethiopian Studies held at the Palais de l'UNESCO, Paris from 23-26 August 1988, along with some abstracts and papers from the Conference. Some of these exist as individual items, others have been stapled together to create books of abstracts.

The fourth Anglo-American Conference of Historians was held at Senate House, the University of London, from 6-11 July 1936. These papers consist of correspondence and documentation in connection with this Conference. These are:

Letter from the Vice-Chancellor, University of London, Institute of Historical Research, to the President, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform concerning the fourth Anglo-American Conference of Historians for the discussion of the problems of historical research which are of interest to the English-speaking world. He asks for the Royal Asiatic Society to send a representative. Typed letter with printed letterhead, dated 14 December 1935. With this letter is a printed Revised Provisional Programme for the Conference stating the Organising Committee, the Sections and the Time-Table for the Conference.

Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to H.L. Eason, University of London, to state that the Council had appointed Sir William Foster to be their delegate at the conference. Typed, dated 14 January 1936.

Letter from Guy Parsloe, Secretary, Anglo-American Conference of Historians, to the President, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform him that the letter saying delegate should have read representatives and asking whether the Royal Asiatic Society wished to nominate further representatives. Typed, with printed letterhead, dated 13 February 1936.

Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to Guy Parsloe, Secretary, Anglo-American Conference of Historians, to state that Sir Richard Burn would also represent the Society. Typed, dated 13 March 1936.

The Royal Asiatic Society moved into the premises, 14 Grafton Street, in 1824 and remained there until 1848. Unfortunately no original archival material remains dating from this time, but there are historic photographs, plans of the premises and some accumulated research notes among the material connected to 14 Grafton Street.

The Royal Asiatic Society leased the premises at 56 Queen Anne Street from 1947 to 1988. The papers include official lease documents, sub-letting agreements, correspondence, plans and photographs.

The records of the Public School Medal cover the institution of the medal and the conferment of the Honour in subsequent years. They include examples of the medal, an original Declaration of Trust, and subsequent printed versions of the declaration; correspondence and newspaper cuttings. However there are not records for all instances of the presentation of the Medal. Researchers are advised to also examine the Council Minutes and the Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society (both held in the RAS Collections) when researching concerning the Public School Medal and its recipients.

In 1973 the Royal Asiatic Society celebrated its Sesquicentenary (150 years). The archival material includes Planning committee administration; material connected with the various events held, exhibitions put on and publications produced in celebration of the occasion; and material concerned with fundraising for the Society.

The records of the Gold Medal cover the institution of the medal and the conferment of the Honour in subsequent years. They include examples of the medal, the original Declaration of Trust, and subsequent printed version of the declaration, correspondence and newspaper cuttings. However there are not records for all instances of the presentation of the Medal.
