Hodgson expresses his inability to add anything of value on the proposed issue of European colonization in India as he (Hodgson) had been out of touch for a long time with developments in this subject. He is transmitting to Sir Robert only the papers relating to his communication with Lord Canning and associated queries. Hodgson references Lord Canning's feeling on the subject as he was fully aware of the importance of the subject and was planning to send a letter to the government in England for their opinion and consent.
