Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland 1823- London, England"Essays on the Languages, Literature, and Religion of Nepál and Tibet: together with further Papers on the Geography, Ethnology, and Commerce of Those Countries by B.H. Hodgson". Published by Trübner & Co., London, 1874. A series of 16 essays written by Hodgson. The book is heavily annotated and on the title page he suggests that this is Volume 1 of 3, the others being published in 1879. Also within the book is a loose sheet between pp.144-145 containing extra notes; a further sheet of notes at page 1 of Part II; a newspaper cutting from the "Naval and Military Gazette" of 10 January 1876 concerning the Ghurkhas between pp. 40-41 of Part II; a newspaper cutting from the Athenaeum of 24 March 1877 concerning a meeting in which it was reported that Hodgson had talked about the broken tribes of Nepal between pp.44-45 of Part II; a printed sheet with an article from The Phoenix - "The Northern Frontagers of China" by Henry H. Howorth between pp. 66-67 of Part II. On the front cover "Own Copy" has been written in ink and the interior has many annotations. Hardbound printed material with handwritten annotations, 1874.
