Sans titreLetter from L'Envoyé extraordinaire, Légation de France aux Etats-Unis del Amerique du Nord to say a mistake was made in giving Hodgson the Ordre royal de la Légion d'honneur. It was meant for a Hodgson in Washington. Handwritten in French with printed letterhead, 2 sides, dated 26 November 1840. Also accompanying envelope with note from Hodgson referring to his appeal against the withdrawal and to another corrective official announcement and the letter related to it. Hodgson sent his appeal to the French Chancellor of Orders (Letter and Decoration) through his botanist friend Dr. Wallich. The revocation was in fact an error caused by mistaken identity of the actual awardee. Once this was realised the award was restored to Hodgson.
