Letter from Albrecht Weber to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he acknowledges Hodgson's letter and the summary of Hodgson's services (not published). He gives a positive opinion of the content of the pamphlet and sends congratulations to Hodgson for his high scholarly achievements and recognition. He writes of his grief for the untimely death of their friend Burnell, about the selling of the greater part of Dr. Rost's library and his appreciation of Burnouf's immortal work. Hodgson's title note with date of receipt on the front of the accompanying envelope. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 10 December 1882.

Letter from Albrecht Weber to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he thanks Hodgson for his kind comments on his essay on the Nakshatra. He is grateful for the chance to study the works that Hodgson has given him. He writes about the politics at Oxford University. The second part of his essay will soon come from the press. Letter from Albrecht Weber to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he concurs with Hodgson distress at seeing his collection in a corner of the library in Calcutta. He writes that the material he presented to the Institut de France in memory of Eugène Burnouf will be visited by the Russian expert, Dr Anton Schiefner. He relates that Professor Schott has not received a copy of Hodgson's work on Turanian languages. Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 24 April 1860.

Hodgson used much of his time in both Nepal and Darjeeling in research, wanting to discover and understand about the architecture, languages, ethnography, religion, zoology and botany. He collected specimens and manuscripts, and had many drawings made, which he donated to many collections throughout Europe. He was also politically involved during his Residency in Nepal, and also later in England, when he continued to show an active interest in the Indian subcontinent, particularly regarding trade and vernacular education. These Personal Papers reflect these interests and are a record of much of his activity - Hodgson and his wives seemed to have a need to record all his successes. He was also a keen annotator of material, so that most of the printed material also bears his handwritten comments.
