Correspondence and printed material concerning lectures, and a typescript of one lecture. The material is:

• Admittance ticket for a lecture by Sir Charles Eliot, 'The History and Monuments of Cambodia', 13 February 1912.
• Admittance ticket for a lecture by Professor Albert von le Coq, 'Journey and Results of the 4th Turfan Expedition', 18 October 1927.
• Admittance ticket for a lecture by Sir E. Denison Ross, 'The Contribution of Hungary to Central Asian Studies with special reference to Csoma de Koros', 12 June 1928.
• Admittance ticket for a lecture by Sir Aurel Stein, 'A Journey of Archaeological Expedition in South-Western Iran (1933-6)', 11 November 1937.
• Typescript of the lecture given by Professor Kochi Doi on Japanese Myth. The lecture was given on 9 December 1937. The typescript is annotated with a note from Doi to Colonel Hoysted, dated 28 January 1938. With the typescript is an admittance ticket for the lecture and a letter from Harold Powlett to Colonel Hoysted to return the typescript, dated 5 February 1938.

• Admittance ticket for a lecture by Bishop Stephen Neill, 'The beginnings of Tamil Literature' which would follow the presentation of the Triennial Gold Medal to Sir Richard Winstedt, 9 October 1947.
• Admittance ticket for a lecture by Professor Dr. Nihar Ranjan Ray, 'Fundamental Approaches to Indian Art', 24 January 1952, a joint lecture with the Royal India, Pakistan and Ceylon Society.
• Newspaper cutting of a short article titled 'Royal Asiatic Society Lectures' in The Times, regarding the Society's new series of popular lectures, including those by Mr A. M. Blackman, Sir Denison Ross, Dr H. R. Hall and Mr Sidney Smith, 15 January 1926.

The 23rd International Congress of Orientalists was held in Cambridge in 1954. The material connected with this Congress includes correspondence concerning organising and finance of the Congress, correspondence regarding attendance, General programme, correspondence regarding the publication of the Proceedings of the Conference and a further research enquiry.

The majority of administrative correspondence is only kept for its working life. This series contains representative samples of the types of administrative letters and those considered to be of archival value, dating from 1901 to the current day.

Five items of correspondence, a photograph and a news cutting. These are:

• Letter from E. J. Rapson to Miss Hughes, Secretary Royal Asiatic Society, to include a photo of a Buddhist sculpture sent to him by Mr W. S. Talbot and extract from a letter from Dr. Burgess concerning the finding of the sculpture, with the suggestion that more may be received after his article in the Journal. The letter is dated 1 May 1901, the photograph is with the letter.
• Letter to Colonel Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, from [Jaul Charpeurnix] regarding writing book reviews. Dated 20 July, 1932. This letter was found inside Hilfsbuch des Pehlevi, Vol.1 by H.S. Nyberg.
• Letter from H.W. Bailey to Sir Richard [Winstedt] regarding a review by Professor Schaeffer which had been given to Bailey, dated 24 August 1943.
• Letter from E. Edwards to Mrs Davis, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to return a paper by Mr. Szczesniak which he had been asked to review. Edwards suggests that it is suitable for publication in the Journal, dated 7 January 1944.
• Letter from Townley Dearle to Mrs Davis, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for her letter and to send a news cutting "Found: 100 Giants" which mentions Dr Viola Petitt of the Royal Asiatic Society, and a copy of his recent play. Dated 10 September 1947. The cutting is with the letter.

• Letter from International Union of Orientalists to Sir Harold Bailey to announce the General Assembly of the Union on 16 July 1973, dated 25 June 1973.
• Letter from Sir Harold Bailey to Professor Stuart Simmonds to state that he will be unable to attend the Assembly but that it would be good to have a representative from the Society at the meeting, dated 2 July 1973.

Correspondence concerned with the finance and organisation of the 23rd Congress. These are:

• Letter from Ralph Turner to Richard Winstedt to state that at the Istanbul Congress the invitation was made for the next Congress to be held in Great Britain. It has been suggested by Harold Bailey that the Congress might be hosted in Cambridge. He asks for Winstedt's help as President of the Royal Asiatic Society. Typed, dated 5 October 1951.
• Statement of assent for the next Congress to be held in Cambridge. Sent out by Mrs Davis, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, and assented by C.R. Boxer. Typed, dated 14 December 1951.
• Letter from Richard Winstedt, President, Royal Asiatic Society, to Professor Sir Lionel Whitby, Vice-Chancellor, University of Cambridge to enquire whether the university would be willing to sponsor the next Congress. Typed, dated 1 January 1952.
• Letter from W.W. Grave, The University Registry, to Richard Winstedt to express the University's concern regarding organising the Congress but suggesting a collaboration with the Royal Asiatic Society. Typed, dated 5 March 1952.
• Letter from Harold Bailey to Richard Winstedt to offer himself as Chairman of the Organising Committee and to suggest a budget needed to the organisation. Typed, dated 16 March 1952.
• Letter from Mrs Davis, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to the Secretary, School of Oriental and African Studies, to ask whether £100 from the Fund of the late James Forlong may be advanced for use of the organizers of the Congress. Typed, dated 18 April 1952.
• Letter from J.R. Bracken, Assistant Secretary, School of Oriental and African Studies, to Mrs Davis, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform her that the Academic Board have agreed to forward the money. Typed, dated 2 May 1952.
• Letter from Denis Sinor, Honorary Secretary, 23rd International Congress, to President, Royal Asiatic Society, to state that a Lloyd's Bank Account has been opened by the Organising Committee and would the Royal Asiatic Society deposit its promised money into this account. Typed, dated 16 May 1952.
• Letter from Denis Sinor, Honorary Secretary, 23rd International Congress, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to acknowledge receipt of the money. Typed, dated 26 May 1952.
• Letter to Mrs Davis, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to enclose letters concerning the possibility of re-establishing the International Committee of the Lidzbarski Foundation in order to decide whether to offer a prize at the forthcoming Congress. Typed, dated 24 August 1952.
• Letter from Denis Sinor, Honorary Secretary, 23rd International Congress, to Sir Richard Winstedt, to return the sum advanced by the Royal Asiatic Society. Typed, dated 23 September 1954.

• Copy of a letter from Robin Allen, nephew of W.E.D. Allen, to Counsellor Filatov, Embassy of the USSR, concerning the invitation of Professors Daniyalov, Abayev, and Tsereteli to the Sesquicentenary celebration of the Royal Asiatic Society, dated 11th July 1972.
• Letter from Robin Allen to Miss Crawford, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to enclose the above letter and to inform that his uncle is out of hospital, dated 16 July 1972.
• Letter from Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to Robin Allen to acknowledge receipt of his letter and to express her gladness that his uncle is out of hospital, dated 27 July 1972.

The Royal Asiatic Society has produced a Journal from the early years of its formation and continues to do so. This material covers the records made in the production, administration and distribution of the Journal.

In 1973 the Royal Asiatic Society celebrated its Sesquicentenary (150 years). The archival material includes Planning committee administration; material connected with the various events held, exhibitions put on and publications produced in celebration of the occasion; and material concerned with fundraising for the Society.
