The collection spans Henry Miers Elliot's career working for the Indian Civil Service from 1827 to 1853, and includes:

• Manuscripts mainly concerned with administration. These are in English and local Indian languages.
• Correspondence to Henry Miers Elliot
• Printed Material
• Visual Material, including copper-plate rubbings, agricultural drawings and a map of Baiswara.

Some of the material had previously been identified by Professor Simon Digby, Honorary Librarian to the Royal Asiatic Society (1970-1984). The information provided by him has been kept with the Henry Miers Elliot Papers.

"Journal of a Mission to the Government of some of the Lower Provinces of Siam". A handwritten unbound manuscript of 94 sides describing James Low's Mission to the Rajah of Ligor in 1824. The manuscript is dated 1824 but there is a postscript explaining the main purpose of the mission, dated 1 January 1846. The manuscript bears many alterations and annotations. These Papers are not the same as the article, "Extracts from the Journal of a Political Mission to the Raja of Ligor in Siam. By Capt. James Low, M. N. I. and M. A. T. C.", published in the Journal of the Asiatic Society of Bengal, July 1838.

With the manuscript are photocopies of printed articles. These are: Report on Lieutenant Low's Public Mission to His Highness the Rajah of Ligor, pp.1-11, unknown source. Journal of a Public Mission to the Rajah of Ligor, pp.12-21, incomplete, unknown source.

These are handwritten manuscripts of the statistical surveys undertaken by Francis Buchanan-Hamilton within the districts of Dinajpur (Bangladesh and India), and Puraniya (Purnia), Shahabad, Bhagalpur , Runggopur, Patna and Gorakhpur in India. Each survey consists of 2 or 3 foolscap volumes. These were rebound in the 1990s.

Loose printed pages, including:

• pp.109-110, and two duplicate copies, of the Supplemental Glossary for the North West Provinces (N.W.P), describing the various strands of the Bunjara community.
• pp.231-232 of the Supplemental Glossary for the North West Provinces, with glossary definitions in various dialects and their translations and descriptions in English. Begins 'Dhooh'/'Dhuh' and ends 'Dhora'.

Various notes, plans and rough glossaries for Elliot's 'A History of India', originally to be named 'A Complete History of Muhammadan India'. Attached at the end are English letters and newspaper clippings, as well as one sheet of notes in Devanagari script. Handwritten bound volume in English and local Indian dialects.
