'Copy of a letter addressed to Col. Sykes by Walter Elliot Esq. of the Madras Civil Service, dated at [Maltari] Vizagapatam, 5 Sept. 1850' in which he writes to send the inscriptions he has received from Captain Gill from Ajanta. He writes concerning these inscriptions and of others that can be found in Madras.

The papers of Charles Philip Brown consisting of three leather-bound volumes being a catalogue of Sanskrit manuscripts held in the the Madras College Manuscript Library comprising the author's collection; part of Colonel Mackenzie's collection; part of the East India House Library:

The Papers of Ram Raz contain an incomplete draft of his Essay on the Architecture of the Hindus with an associated letter from H.H. Wilson to Captain Harkness, Royal Asiatic Society. The papers also contain a 'Translation of a Hukamnamah or a Code of Rules enacted by the late Tippoo Sultan, the Sovereign of Mysore for the conduct of his Amilders'.

'A copy of the Report from the Madras Government to the Court of Directors on the importance of the Study of Sanscrit (Sanskrit) and the vernacular languages of the South of India to their civil servants. Dated January 1812. Also other documents relating to the same object.' This description is written on the internal front cover. Documents include:
