              This is a Gogerly translation of the Sidath Sangarawa - a grammar of the Sinhalese language. Handwritten by Gogerly, in Colombo, Sri Lanka (Ceylon); date unknown. Blue paper, brown ink. The manuscript consists of 20 loose sheets, and includes text in English and Sinhalese. The Sidath Sangarawa was written in the 13th century to describe and analyse the grammar of the Sinhalese language. This book is one of the most important one on the subject, and has been taught in the monasteries in Sri Lanka for centuries. 21.3cmX17cm.

              A letter of correspondence from T.W. Arnold addressed to Miss Charlotte Hughes, the Secretary and Librarian at the RAS, concerning the possible identification of Gogerly translations at the India Office. He suggests that Gogerly gave some of his translations to Monsieur Grimblot to bring from Ceylon. Written on October 5, 1907.               Letter from Professor Johan Hendrick Kern of Leiden to Brian Houghton Hodgson in which he acknowledges with thanks to Hodgson for sending his books and pamphlets. He praises Hodgson's works on Buddhism and discusses Buddhist topics including Northern Buddhism, and four philosophical schools. He writes about his work in progress relating to the history of Buddhism in the Dutch language, promising to send a copy of the book immediately after publication. Kern writes about the memory of his friend Brian Nahuys who had made Kern acquainted with Hodgson's name. Hodgson's title note with date of receipt on the front of the accompanying envelope. Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 26 June 1881.
