              A hand bound cover-less booklet comprised of various thematically arranged notes on the Kanheri Caves. Included are notes on the process of compiling all of the information and omissions; catalogued lists of paintings, inscriptions, dagobas (stupas),'types of cave', and sculpture, which is accompanied by a loose piece of writing card listing the contractions used in the descriptions.

              Three extracts taken from earlier sources regarding the Salsette Caves. First are extracts translated from a French Translation of Carsten Niebuhr's 1780 Voyage en Arabic (Arabian Voyage). The second are extracts from a 1847 work by Dr. J Bird. Third, extracts from J. B. 'Selby's' (Seely?) 1825 Wonders of Ellora. And finally, Notes on Kanheri from James Fergusson's 1845 Rock Cut Temples.

              A smaller piece of card and paper pasted onto a sheet of folscap paper. The first is an impression of what is believed to be a coin found in front of Cave No. 7 in November 1852, with a brief explanatory note dated January 1853. The second is a letter dated to approximately June 1853 sent from Henry West to a Dr. Wilson containing a copy short inscription from Kanheri.

              The addressee is most likely John Wilson, once President of the Bombay Asiatic Society, Bombay Cave Temple Commission and lobbyist for the Archaeological Survey of India. This is indicated to on the folder list; 'Dr. J. Wilson'.

              An unbound notebook of notes, sketches and drawings taken by Walter West during his visit to the Kanheri Caves on the 27th and 28th of December 1870. The notebook is comprised of 36 pages, with an additional 12 smaller inserted pages. The notes were taken to complete the information which had previously obtained regrading the facades, columns, pilasters and stūpas. Also included is W. West's travel itinerary and a brief summary of his stay at the Caves.
