Deelreeks RAS GOV9/3/2 - Amalgamation of the Society of Biblical Archaeology with the Royal Asiatic Society

In 1919 the Society for Biblical Archaeology was absorbed into the Royal Asiatic Society. This series of correspondence and allied papers concerns the amalgamation. These are:

• 'Memo' concerning the possible amalgamation of the two Societies, by James Kennedy, Treasurer, Royal Asiatic Society, dated 7 December 1917.
• 'Memorandum' concerning a private conference between certain members of the two Societies, held 7 December 1917.
• Record of the Resolution passed by the Joint Committee of the Royal Asiatic Society and the Society for Biblical Archaeology held 13 April 1918.
• Agreed Minutes for the Joint Committee Meeting of the Royal Asiatic Society and the Society for Biblical Archaeology held 13 April 1918.
• Correspondence between Francis Legge, Society of Biblical Archaeology, and James Kennedy, Treasurer, Royal Asiatic Society concerning the amalgamation, 13 letters, handwritten, dated 16 January - 22 July, 1918.

• Letter from Sotheby, Wilkinson and Hodge to the Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the sale of the books belonging to the Society of Biblical Archaeology, dated 2 December 1918.
• Letter from A.H. Wilson, Honorary Solicitor, Royal Asiatic Society, to R.W. Frazer, Secretary, concerning the proposed agreement between the two societies, dated 3 August 1918.
• Printed letter from the Royal Asiatic Society to its members to inform of the circumstances of the amalgamation of the Society of Biblical Archaeology with the Royal Asiatic Society, date 18 September 1918.
• 'Memorandum of Special General Meeting 8 October 1918' when the provisional agreement was brought before the Society. Draft agreement between the two societies, undated.
• Letter from Francis Legge to Miss Phillips concerning the winding up of the Society for Biblical Archaeology, dated 16 March 1920.
