The Essay Prize Competition was run in both 1969 and 1970. In neither year were there any entries but for both years there is some administrative correspondence and notices.

The Minutes for the Council Meeting for 13 February 1969 record that a suggestion to discontinue the Prize Essay Competition was not approved and that the essay subjects for 1969 were set. The Minutes for 9 October 1969 record that no essays were submitted and therefore the Council were asked to look into appropriate alternatives. The Minutes for 12 February 1970 record that the Prize Essay Competition was to be repeated that year but without specifying essay titles. The Minutes for 11 June 1970 state that five essay titles were approved at the Meeting but the Minutes for 8 October 1970 report that no essays appeared to have arrived. The Minutes for 10 December 1970 record that there were no competitors in September and therefore it was agreed to run the competition in the following year.
