There is no mention of the Universities Prize Essay Fund in the Minutes of the Council Meeting for 1946 though in the Minutes for 13 February 1947 it was recorded that no entries had been received for the previous year and that the new essay titles would be selected by Mr. Alfred Master and Mr. C.H. Phillips. No further mention of the Prize is minuted but in the Anniversary General Report (Journal of Royal Asiatic Society 1948, p. 202), it was reported that 8 essays had been received. The Prize was awarded to Mr. G. Bennett of New College, Oxford, with special prizes also being given to Mr. N.A.D. Macrae and Mr. G.A. Cary.
