Hodgson kept many newspaper cuttings both about his own life and about the subjects in which he was interested. Though some of these are located with other material, such as in the Autograph book (BHH/1), there are 119 loose cuttings within his Papers.

Cutting from The Homeward mail with article entitled, "Captain Sladen's Expedition to Yunan (From the Friend of India, Oct. 19)" concerning the success of Sladen's mission to Yunan. The article gives an account of the journey, the failure to advance to Talifoo and the negotiations at Tali. Hodgson has added his own title. Dated 16 November 1868.
