Administrative history
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

- Printed invitation to the Royal Asiatic Society to send a delegate for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the University of Catania. Printed in Latin with accompanying envelope.
- Note to state that Professor Margoliouth reports that the Council had suggested Professor Nallino as the Society's representative. In Col. Hoysted's hand, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, undated.
- Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to Professor Nallino to state that for the 500th anniversary of the foundation of Catania, the Council deemed that Professor Nallino could best represent the honour of the Society. Typed, dated 15 June 1934.
- Letter from Carlo Alfonso Nallino to the Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society to accept the honour of representing the Society. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 1 September 1934.
- Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to Professor Nallino to state the Council's gratification that he would represent the Society and to enclose the official form. Typed, dated 4 September, 1934.
- Newspaper cutting from The Times, Tuesday 23 October 1934, reporting on the five hundredth anniversary celebration of the University of Catania.
