This material was mostly sent to Michael Willis from Terence Phelps and others.

Immediate source of acquisition or transfer

The material was donated to the Royal Asiatic Society by Michael Willis in October 2021. A small amount had been previously sent to the Society by Terence Phelps.

The papers contain correspondence with Michael Willis, article written by Phelps and others; and other correspondence. These are all concerning excavations in Northern India particularly around relics concerned with the origins of Buddha.
