Administrative history
The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Correspondence and notes re potential disposal of some of the Library - correspondence between members of Council, the Honorary Librarian and others about reducing the book stock by disposing of items either not in line with the Collections remit or incomplete sets of journals and newspapers. Consists of printed emails, handwritten notes and a list of potential periodicals for disposal. Includes seven electronic documents: 01-03 were originally created in 2004; 04 in 2005; 05 in 2008 ; 06-07 in 2010 and all were converted into archival documents in 2018.
