The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Gordon Waterfield was a British journalist, broadcaster and writer, chiefly known for his book What Happened to France?, in which he documents his experiences as a journalist in France during World War II.

Lesley Adkins is an English writer and archaeologist. She is a member of the Institute for Archaeologists and fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. She has written several books including Empires of the Plain: Henry Rawlinson and the Lost Languages of Babylon.

Dr Roger B Parsons worked at the British Library and as Librarian at the Buddhist Society. Upon retirement in 2005, he started volunteering at the Royal Asiatic Society, undertaking cataloguing of the Society's collections, most notably the Rawlinson papers. He volunteered with the Society until mid-2024. In 2023, Roger received Life Membership of the Society in recognition of his work with the collections.

Correspondence and information concerning the Papers of Henry Creswicke Rawlinson. These papers were donated in the 1970s.   • Correspondence between Gordon Waterfield and Miss Wade, Lord Methuen's estate, concerning the Rawlinson Papers in the archives at Corsham Court. Typed and handwritten, 7 letters, dated 28 May 1963 - 9 September 1964.
  • Correspondence concerning the deposit of Rawlinson archives at the National Army Museum and the transfer of archives from St Anthony's College to the Royal Asiatic Society. Typed and handwritten, 2 pieces, dated 6 December 1972- 21 January 1973.
  • Correspondence between Helen Sandeman and Godfrey Goodwin, Royal Asiatic Society Librarian, concerning the listing of the Rawlinson papers and transcription of some letters. The list and transcriptions are with the correspondence. Typed and handwritten, 52 pieces, dated 1 February 1989 - 12 February 1990.
  • Correspondence from Lesley Adkins to Michael Pollock, Royal Asiatic Society Librarian, to send a copy of the article, 'Dokumente zur Entzifferung der Altpersischen Keilschrift Durch H.C. Rawlinson' from Persica, Vol.7, 1975-8. The article is with this letter. A further letter to enquire again about the collections. Typed and copied, 10 pieces, letters dated 13 November 2002 - 13 April 2003.
