Letter from Sir Harold Bailey to President, Royal Asiatic Society, to enclose a letter from Professor Morgenstierne, President of the International Union of Orientalists. The copy of the letter from Morgenstierne is with this letter concerning whether Denis Sinor is retaining his British citizenship or if a new representative will have to be found and to provide details of the activities of the Union.

Letter from President, Royal Asiatic Society, to Georg Morgenstierne, President, International Union of Orientalists, to state that the Society's representative would be Dr Allchin of Cambridge but that he is unsure if his letter would reach Allchin as Allchin had already left for India.

The 17th International Congress of Orientalists, fixed to be held in Oxford in 1915, was abandoned due to the First World War. In September 1919, Orientalists, principally from the Royal Asiatic Society, Société Asiatique, American Oriental Society and Scuolà Orientale - R. Università di Roma, with representatives from other nations, gathered to discuss the future of Oriental Studies. This was hosted by the Royal Asiatic Society and included a series of lectures, various receptions including a visit to the British Museum and to Kew Gardens, and culminated with a Banquet held at the Imperial Restaurant, Regent Street, on Saturday 6 September. Università di Roma hosted by the Royal Asiatic Society, 3-6 September 1919.

  • Silver and enamelled drinking horn presented by the King of Sweden to the Congress. Within original presentation case.
