The Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland was founded by the eminent Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke on the 15th March 1823. It received its Royal Charter from King George IV on the 11th August 1824 'for the investigation of subjects connected with and for the encouragement of science, literature and the arts in relation to Asia'. It continues as a forum for those who are interested in the languages, cultures and history of Asia to meet and exchange ideas.

Official correspondence and bulletins concerning the Tenth All-India Conference. These are:
Letters from Dr M. Nizamuddin, Local Secretary, The Tenth All-India Conference, to L.C. Hopkins and L.D. Barnett, Vice-Presidents, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform of the forthcoming conference and to ask the Society to send delegates. With the letter is The First Bulletin which also contains a list of Officers. These are both dated 1 January 1939. Further there is a list of the Rules of the conference and a pro forma letter for delegates to inform of papers they may wish to present. 5 pieces, printed material.
