Personal papers of William Pettigrew connected with the Manipuri language and other local dialects.

Typed manuscript of a rough draft for a proposed monograph, can be in relation to WP 1/3. It is the arrangement of the material researched on Archaic Manipuri divided into chapters with a bibliography for reference.

Examination papers taken by William Pettigrew to test proficiency in Manipuri language and Hindustani tribal culture and accompanied by a note from the examiner congratulating William Pettigrew for passing the exam.

Examination papers handwritten by William Pettigrew answering questions in regards to proficiency in Manipuri language with annotations from the examiner, marks received 82 out of 100, total of 19 pages and a letter addressed to William Pettigrew congratulating him on passing the exam.

These papers were collated by Saroj Nalini Arambam and John Parratt in their research of the area of Manipur, India. They include original and copied manuscripts in Meetei Mayek and Bengali scripts, and offprints and copies of articles on Manipur.

Typed manuscript titled 'A Study made of 133 words in 29 different dialects to compare to the Archaic and Modern Manipuri', there is handwritten annotations on the front page: 'by Rev W Pettigrew of Manipur State Assam India' and 'Preparatory to a paper proposed to write on the Archaic Manipuri language'. The manuscript has been formatted in to a table which has the modern Manipuri dialect on the left and the archaic dialect on the right.

Two manuscript pages from the puya Takhel Ngamba (Conqueror of Trippera) about the early 18th century King, Garib Niwaz. The pages can probably also be dated to the 18th century.

With these page are a photocopy of a letter in Manipuri script sent by Maharaj Chandrakirti Singh to the Viceroy of India in May 1868.
