Correspondence between the School of Oriental Studies and the Royal Asiatic Society. These are:

• Letter from G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to bring to the Society's attention that the present appointment of Governors will terminate in August 1935 and to ask for the Society to inform him of their representative for the forthcoming five years. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 20 February 1935.
• Letter from Col Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to inform him that Sir Edward D. Maclagan would represent the Society for the forthcoming five years. Typed, dated 15 March 1935.
• Letter from G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for the letter notifying of Maclagan's appointment, Typed with printed letterhead, dated 18 March 1935.
• Letter from Col Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to inform him that Sir Edward D. Maclagan was no longer able to represent the Society and he would be replaced by Sir Oliver Wardrop. Typed, dated 19 November 1935.
• Letter from G.W. Rossetti, Secretary, School of Oriental Studies, to Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for his letter notifying of the change of representative. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 20 November 1935.

In 1938 the School of Oriental Studies became the School of Oriental and African Studies by a change in its charter. The Society also holds correspondence from this later time period:

• Correspondence between J.R. Bracken, Secretary, School of Oriental and African Studies, and the Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform that the Society's representative on the university's Governing Body term of office was to expire and to confirm that Mr Dennis J. Duncanson would be reinstated. Typed with handwritten annotations, 3 letters, dated 11 February -21 April 1980.

The Royal Asiatic Society leased the premises at 5 New Burlington Street from 1848 to 1869. There is no original archival material for this period. These papers consist of copies of a perspective drawing executed from Regent Street. There are 2 copies of this view with an explanatory note. And a further copy of numbers 78-86.

The Royal Asiatic Society leased the premises at 22 Albemarle Street from 1869-1919. These papers contain official lease documents, correspondence regarding the property and possible alternatives, and a more recent photograph.

Letter from Charles Asprey to Professor T.W. Rhys Davids in which he writes, though desirous to meet the wishes of the Council, he cannot accept a less rental than £350 per annum.

Letter from Charles Asprey to Professor T.W. Rhys Davids in which he writes that he will call at Albemarle Street on Friday afternoon to discuss some points with him.

Letter from F.F. Arbuthnot to Professor T.W. Rhys Davids in which he advises that the Society accepts Asprey's conditions and to ask for Asprey to send a draft lease.

Letter from Lord Reay to Sir Charles Lyall to say that Lyall's letter had reached him too late to submit to the Royal Asiatic Society Council that day but he is willing to sign and send on to Lord Morley. The objections against a previous proposal concerned amalgamation with the Northbrook Club but if separate habitation for the Society could be provided, that might be of benefit to the Society.

Letter from Lord Reay to Miss Hughes, Secretary of Royal Asiatic Society, to inform that he signed the letter and has forwarded it. He suggests the letter be sent through Charles Lyall to expedite matters.

The Royal Asiatic Society leased 74 Grosvenor Street from 1920 to 1947. These papers include those for the negotiation of taking up the lease, for possibility lease of different premises, for wartime damage insurance contributions, for the expediency of leaving the premises. There is also a photograph of 74 Grosvenor Street of unknown date.
