Simmonds, President of Royal Asiatic Society, to Professor David Hawkes to inform him that the Society would like to award him the Gold Medal in recognition of his work in Chinese studies. He also informs that the recipient is expected to give a lecture and he hoped that Professor Hawkes might give his lecture at the proposed memorial lecture in honour of Arthur Waley in May 1975.
