The Denis Sinor Medal was inaugurated in 1993 by Professor Denis Sinor, specifically to honour scholars in the field of Inner Asian Studies. He donated a sum of money at the initiation of the award and more was bequeathed after his death. The material contains correspondence and administrative documents concerned with the inauguration of the award and further legacy, and for awarding of the medal to scholars of Inner Asian studies.

Correspondence and administrative documents concerned with the setting up of the Denis Sinor Medal. These are:

• Letter from Denis Sinor, Distinguished Emeritus Professor, to an unknown recipient to enquire regarding the instigation of a triennial gold medal for a major work published on an Inner Asian subject, the medal being in memory of his time serving the Royal Asiatic Society as the Honorary Secretary. In 1993 the first Denis Sinor Medal was awarded to Professor Sir Harold Bailey. The award was presented to him in Cambridge on 19 May 1993 by the President of the Society. The archival material contains correspondence and administrative documents concerning the award.

The Denis Sinor Medal was awarded to Nicholas Sims-Williams in 2015. The administrative material is still held in current records. However there are five digital photographs of Sims-Williams giving his lecture at the Society's premises in Stephenson Way, and of the presentation of the Medal to him by Dr Gordon Johnson, President, Royal Asiatic Society. This event took place on 13 May 2016.
