There is one item in these Papers. This is a "List of books printed in Egypt, to the commencement of the year of the Flight 1251 - with their prices. Copied (without correction of any trifling errors) from a register lent to me by the principal agent for the sale of these books. E.W.L". Handwritten, 4 sides. The introductory note bearing the title and an ending note about monetary equivalent in Sterling are in English. The list in Arabic.

Papers of Abraham Poliak

This collection contains correspondence between Abraham Poliak and the Secretary of the Royal Asiatic Society (Diana Crawford), concerning the proposed reprint of Poliak's publication, Feudalism in Egypt, Syria, Palestine, and the Lebanon 1250-1900. This was originally published in 1939 funded by the Society's Prize Publication Fund.

Due to Poliak's death in 1970, the proposed reprint never came to fruition, The collection also contains three notebooks of draft amendments made by Poliak.

The International Congress of Libraries and Documentation Centres was held in Brussels from the 11-18 September 1955. It included the Third International Congress of Libraries, the Fourth Congress of Music Libraries, and the Twenty-Second International Conference of Documentation. This material consists of the printed pamphlet entitled "Notice No. 1, September 1954", giving details of the Organizing Committees, the History and Aims of the Congress, the Programmes for the Congress etc. The material is printed in English and French.

The Fifth International Congress of Linguists took place in Brussels from 28 August to 2 September 1939. This material contains correspondence and printed material connected to this Congress. These are:

  • First Circular for the Fifth International Congress of Linguists giving details of the Conference and the topics to be addressed. Written in French, dated 20 October 1938.
  • Postcard from H.W. Bailey to Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform him that Bailey was intending to attend the Congress. Handwritten, dated 12 January 1939.
  • Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to the Secretary, International Congress of Linguists, to inform him that Professor H.W. Bailey will represent the Society at the Congress. Typed, dated 26 January 1939.

Three items connected with the International Congress of Geography in Warsaw held on the 25-31 August 1934 under the auspices of the International Geographical Union. These are:

  • First Circular for the International Congress with a letter from Stanislaw Pawlowski, General Secretary, and Eugenjusz Romer, inviting participants to the Congress. The circular also covers Terms of the Congress, the Themes of the Meetings, and Excursions. A handwritten annotation notes "Resolved on 12.10.33 not to nominate a representative".
  • Bulletin D'Adhésion for the Congress for becoming a Member of the Congress, taking part in the discussion, and taking part in the excursions. Printed in French.
  • Second Circular for the International Congress giving further information about the Congress, the subjects for discussion and the excursions.

  • Plan of the rooms to be rented, dated 24 June 2005.
  • Letter from Mark Winkler, Beaumont & Co., to Alison Ohta, Royal Asiatic Society, to set out the proposed head of terms for occupation of the rooms at 73 Collier Street, dated 30 June 2005.
  • Licence Agreement between Manchester Square Properties Ltd. and the Royal Asiatic Society regarding the rental of the rooms for the time period 14 July 2005-13 July 2006. Signed and dated 13 July 2005.
  • Letter from Alison Ohta, Curator, Royal Asiatic Society, to The Manager, Lloyds TSB Bank, Baywater Branch, to agree payment to Manchester Square Properties Ltd., dated 13 July 2005.
  • "List of Furniture to take to Collier Street" - inventory of furniture, undated.
  • "Notification of Change of Address from Queen's Gardens to 73 Collier Street - 2 printed cards.
