In 2001 and 2002 there was a bilateral Symposium on Anglo-Iranian Relations since 1800. This was arranged by the Royal Asiatic Society and the Centre for Documents and Diplomatic History of the Iranian Ministry for Foreign Affairs with sponsorship by the British Institute for Persian Studies and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

Early correspondence connected to the governance of the Society. These are:

• Letter from James Tod, Librarian, Royal Asiatic Society, to William Huttman, Secretary to the Committee for Correspondence, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the contacts he had made with European oriental Societies with the letters of introduction he had taken. Handwritten, 6 sides, dated 3 March 1827.
• 'The Memorial of the President, Director, Vice-Presidents, and Council of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland' to 'The Right Honourable Sir Robert Peel, Bart. M.P. First Lord of the Treasury, Chancellor of the Exchequer' to request that the Government might grant them use of a Public Building and in particular the recently vacated premises of the Royal Academy of Painting, dated 28 March 1835, printed material, 2 copies.
• Letter from Henry St George Tucker (1771–1851) to Sir George Staunton (1781-1859) concerning an Agricultural branch for the interchange of useful plants between England and India, and concerning Staunton's application for a House, offering space in "this great House... if the Society could migrate so far east". Address, East India House. Dated 9th February 1839, handwritten.
• "Anno Sexto & Septimo Victoriae Reginae. Cap. XXXVI An Act to exempt from County, Borough, Parochial and other local Rates, Land and Buildings occupied by Scientific and Literary Societies, 28th July 1843", printed pamphlet.
• Letter from Victor [Houlton], Private Secretary, Office of Works, to H.H Wilson, Director, Royal Asiatic Society, to state that Sir William Molesworth would be happy to receive a deputation from the Society. Handwritten, dated 31 July 1854.
• Letter from Colonel Sykes to Mr Norris, regarding Presidentship of the Society. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 15 May 1858.
• Letter from Ian Reynold to a newly appointed official at the Society to explain that for the first time in 28 years he is too unwell to attend the meeting and therefore would the recipient act on his behalf. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 12 January 1864.

A small amount of 19th century correspondence concerned with the Journal remains. These are:

• 'Some remarks on reading Lt. Col. Colebrooke's papers relating to Ceylon' - a critique of a paper submitted by Lt. Col. Colebrooke, unknown author, undated.
• Correspondence from J.W. Bosanquet to Edwin Norris concerning a paper he is submitting, two letters, dated 29 October 1858 and 2 November 1858. Also a letter from H.H. Wilson to Edwin Norris to state there would be no objection to Bosanquet's paper being included, dated 27 [August 1859]. The article was published in the Journal in 1860.
• Correspondence from Brian Houghton Hodgson to Edwin Norris and J.W. Redhouse concerning the publication of papers he had sent. Four Handwritten letters dated 18 January 1861, 19 January 1861, 16 February 1861 and 19 February 1861. Hodgson first deems the material not worth printing, then reconsiders and offers and sends £10 towards the cost. There is a further letter from R. Spence Hardy considering that the material may well be of interest if it does not overlap that of Gutzlaff's printed in 'Miscellaneous Translations from Oriental Languages'. Handwritten, dated 20 May 1861. The article appeared in JRAS 18 (1861), "Notice on Buddhist Symbols" pp.393-399.
• Correspondence from J.E. Hall to J.W. Redhouse concerning a paper he is writing on an inscription and how ill-health has slowed the process. Two letters, dated 18 July [1863] and 17 August 1863. Letter from Henry Cope, Secretary of the Agri-Horticultural Society of the Punjab, requesting a copy of the paper written by Professor Medlicott to be translated into the local languages, dated 22 January 1863.
• Letter from Professor P. Petersen to Forster Fitzgerald Arbuthnot responding to criticism of his article by Mr Fleet, dated 14 October 1892.
