  • Letter from Noel Guina, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to John Villiers, Director Royal Asiatic Society, to send a quote from SSB, stationery suppliers, for printing the invitations. A copy of this quote is with the letter.
  • Letter dated 14 April 1998. Letter from Noel Guina, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to John Streeting, Social Service Supplies, to request they fulfill the order for 1000 invitation cards. A sample of the invitation is with this letter.
  • Letter dated 12 May 1998. Letter from C.C.F. Naylor, Honorary Treasurer, Royal Asiatic Society, to Alasdair Macleod, British Museum Press, to confirm the order for postcards for the exhibition, dated 27 May 1998.

Correspondence sent from Mr J. de la Valette to Horace Geoffrey Quaritch Wales regarding photographs and replica of a Siamese lion. These are:

  • Letter from Mr John de la Valette to Horace Geoffrey Quaritch Wales to send him 20 photographs of a Siamese lion, which he would also send by separate post. These had been given him by the then Siamese minister but the India Society did not seem to want to act upon them. He was therefore sending them to Quaritch Wales with the accompanying correspondence concerning them. Typed, dated 27 June 1936.
  • Letter from Phra Bahiddha Mukara, Secretary of the Siamese Legation, to Mr John de la Valette to send him a list of the photographs of articles found at Nagor Patham, and to give a rough translation of the letter received from the Royal Institute concerning the black marble lion. He also sends a translation of the description of Nagor Pathom. Typed, dated 12 September 1932. The lists and description of Nagor Patham are with the letter.
  • Letter from John de la Valette to Mr Wilkinson concerning the photographs of Nagor Pathom monastery in Siam and a replica of a stone lion. He is sending the photographs, descriptions and replica with his letter. Typed, dated 23 September 1932.
  • Letter from John de la Valette to Dr Barnett, British Museum, to ask his opinion of the enclosed photographs. Handwritten, dated 4 October 1932.
  • Handwritten note to suggest that the object is a clothes weight, either Chinese or of Chinese influence, from Bramholtz of the British Museum.
  • Letter from Dr. L.D. Barnett, British Museum, to John de la Valette to thank him for showing the photographs and to give some information regarding the inscriptions. Typed, dated 10 October 1932.

Four items of correspondence concerning Formosa manuscripts no longer in the possession of the Society. These are:

  • Letter from the Japanese Embassy to present its compliments to the Royal Asiatic Society and to seek permission for Mr. Siichi Iwao, Assistant Professor at Taihoku Imperial University to visit the Society. Typed, 1 side, dated 1 April 1932.
  • Letter from Siichi Iwao to the Royal Asiatic Society to ask whether nine sheets of Formosa manuscripts were available to be seen at the Society which had been donated by E. Colborne Baber. Handwritten, 2 pieces, dated 8 April 1932.
  • Letter to Sir James Stewart Lockhart, Mr Hopkins, Mr Yett and Sir R. Johnston from Colonel Hoysted to ask about the manuscripts and whether they were borrowed by Dr. de Lacouperie and not returned to the Society on his death. Typed, 1 piece, dated 13 April 1932.
  • Letter from Reginald Johnston to Colonel Hoysted to state that he felt it was strange that Dr. de Lacouperie was allowed to take the manuscripts away without a guarantee that they would be returned and that the Society in those days had shown slackness in not claiming them on his death. Handwritten, 1 piece, 2 sides, dated 26 April 1932.
