A handwritten manuscript of Yādgār-i Cishtī by Noor Ahmad Chishti with an English colophon which states: 'Yādgār-i Chishti by Nur Ahmad Chishti Lahori. Autograph presented by the author in 1858 to Robert Eyles Egerton, then Deputy Commissioner of Lahore. A description of trades and castes in the Punjab.' The manuscript is written in Urdu with annotations. It has a leather binding decorated with flower patterns. However these are much faded and the general condition of the volume is poor.

A single loose leaf is found within the volume. This bears an inscription in Urdu, entitled, in English, 'Inscription on one of the guns in the Castle' and a further sentence identifying the date to 16 February 1754.

A handwritten copy of the Mémoire sur l'histoire ancienne du Japon : d'après le Ouen Hien Tong Kao de Ma-Touan-Lin written by the Marquis d'Hervey de Saint Denys, President of the Society of Ethnographie, originally published in 1872. This version was copied for Ernest Mason Satow by the 'Ph. [Society] Japaniste' in 1876.

It is a small bound volume with red cover and bearing the bookplate for Ernest Mason Satow, Yedo, on the inside cover.

Three volumes concerned with British involvement in Java:

• Java Antiquities, a bound volume composed of four sections including lists, correspondence, a memorandum and private journals.
• Java Antiquities Craufurd, a bound volume containing two sections, both on the ruins of Javanese temples.
• British in Java 1811-1812 Contemporary Documents, a bound volume containing multiple manuscripts including letters, contracts, instructions, memoirs, minutes, treaties, notes and reports.

These volumes provide information and a valuable insight into British involvement in Java during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Additionally, they offer accounts of the architecture (particularly of temples), culture, history, traditions and practices of Java and its people, prior to and during British Rule.

First Volume - Java Antiquities

• First section - Lists and corrrespondence regarding the possible second publication of Sir T. S. Raffles' book, History of Java, with notes by Mr Hammond, Sir T. S. Raffles and the Duke of Somerset.
• Second section - Handwritten descriptions of four Javanese temples; Cobon Dalum, Sewu, Jonggrangan and Loro Jongran, likely written by T. S. Raffles.
• Third section - 'Memorandum made on a visit to the ancient Hindu Remains on Gunung Prau in the Island of Java, during the month of September 1815, illustrated with Plans & sketches taken on the spot', likely written by T. S. Raffles.
• Fourth section - 'Extracts from the private Journals of Captain G. P. Baker, 19th Regt Bengal Infantry, of all memories made on the spot relative to the Collection of antiquarians Drawing [etc] made by him in a tour thro' the interior of Java in the years 1815/16'. Handwritten with accompanying drawings.

Second volume - Java Antiquities Craufu[rd]

• First section - 'On the Ruins of Prambana in Java', May 1st 1816, 49 pages of handwritten text by John Crawfurd with notes by G. P. Baker and T. S. Raffles.
• Second section - 'On the Ruins of Boro Budor in Java', March 10th 1817, 26 pages of handwritten text by John Crawfurd with notes by G. P. Baker and T. S. Raffles.

Third Volume - Untitled on outside of book, inside title reads Britain in Java 1811-1812 Contemporary documents

• First section - 'Instructions to the first British Resident appointed to the Court of His Highness the Susunan of [ ] (or Solo) Java', by [J. Eckford?] the acting secretary of the Lieutenant Governor. 5 pages of handwritten text.
• Second section - 'Memorial concerning the limits of the existing Relations between the Court of [ ] and the former Government'. 4 pages of handwritten text.
• Third section - 'Contract between the British Government on one side, and the foe [...] [possibly Pakubuwono IV] lord of the manor of half of the high Country of Java'. 4 pages of handwritten text containing 15 articles.
• Fourth section - 'Copy of the 24th article of the contract of the year 1792, between the British Government and the Sultan of [ ]. 2 pages of handwritten text.
• Fifth section - Colonel Adams' report to T. S. Raffles, containing advice for the court of Solo, December 3rd 1811. 11 pages of handwritten text.
• Sixth section - Letter to Lieutenant Colonel Adams by T. S. Raffles on government matters, December 6th 1811. 9 pages of handwritten text.
• Seventh section - Letter to Colonel Adams regarding the conduct of the Susuhunan, by Thomas [Claude], March 9th 1812. 3 pages of handwritten text.
• Eighth section - Letter to T. S. Raffles, the Lieutenant Governor, by Alexander Adams in response to the previous letter (seventh section), March 20th 1812. 3 pages of handwritten text.
• Ninth section - Treaty of friendship between the British East India Company and the local ruler (possibly Pakubuwono IV), mediated by Alexander Adams. 5 pages of handwritten text containing 17 articles.
• Tenth section - Treaty between the British East India Company and the local ruler Hamengkubuwnono III, written by John Crawfurd. 5 pages of handwritten text containing 22 articles.
• Eleventh section - Proof of correspondence between a vasal of the British Government and the Court of Mataram, found in the bureau of the Sultan. Translated by T. S. Raffles and one other [illegible]. 5 pages of handwritten text.
• Twelfth section - 'Minutes of a conversation with H. H. the Sultan', by H. Hope, July 12th 1812. 3 pages of handwritten text.
• Thirteenth section - A letter to T. S. Raffles by H. Hope regarding his conversation with the Susuhunan. 3 pages of handwritten text.
• Fourteenth section - A preliminary treaty set out by the British in response to the conversation with the Susuhunan, possibly by H. Hope. 2 pages of handwritten text containing 7 articles.
• Fifteenth section - 'Definitive Treaty between the British Government [&] H. H. the [Susuhunan]'', March 1813, signed by Lord Minto, T. S. Raffles and one other. 5 pages of handwritten text containing 22 articles.
• Sixteenth section - 'Some Brief notices of Javanese Histories, political events, traditions' in Malay and English, by unknown author. 5 pages of handwritten text, Malay on the left, English on the right.
• Seventeenth section - 'Some further notices of Javanese History', by unknown author. 5 pages of handwritten text.
• Eighteenth section - 'Further notices of [ ] or pretenders to Royalty' in Malay and English, by unknown author. 3 pages of handwritten text.
• On reverse side of bound volume, first section - Names and titles of all members of the court in Java by unknown author. 9 pages of handwritten text.
• On reverse side of bound volume, second section - Memoirs of a volcanic eruption of Mount Tombora on the Island of Sumbawa, April 1815, by unknown author. 5 pages of handwritten text.

Two tables listing the communities of the zamindars (landlords) in the parganas of [ ] and Akbarabad (Agra). These are signed and stamped with the signees' seals, one of which dates the table to 1228 Hijri (1813 A.D.). One table also list the Tahsildars (revenue agents) as well as the zamindars. The tables are written in Shikasta Nasta'liq script.

'The personal narrative of the Taleb Sidi Ibrahim be Muhammed el-Messi, of the province of Sus; including some Statistic and Political Notices of the extreme south-west country of Morocco'. The Berber manuscript was commissioned by William Brown Hodgson (1801-1871), US State representative to North African Barbary States, who had it translated into Arabic. From the Arabic translation he made an English translation. All three are bound within the book with an introduction by Hodgson, concerning the commissioning of the manuscript, which he believed was the third manuscript to be written in Berber. The introduction is dated 1 March 1835.

These Papers of William (Bill) Roff relate mainly to his research interests in the Hajj pilgrimage particularly among pilgrims from Southeast Asia. The material consists of research notes, papers of Roff and others, and official documents.

Two Pilgrim Passes for Mecca:

• Pilgrim Pass for Haji Abdul Azio bin Haji-Samat, a pilgrim from Kelantan, Malaysia. The pass is the portion to be retained by the Malay Pilgrimage Officer at the Jeddah Office, and bears the details of the passholder, his photograph and thumbprint. It is dated 18-19 June 1924.
• Pilgrim Pass for Che Ali bin Mamat, age 21 months, from Kelanatan, Malaysia. The pass was valid for one return journey on pilgrimage to Mecca, and contains his personal and family details and a photograph. Appended is a repot from the Chief Medical Officer, Kelantan, giving dates of the child's smallpox and cholera vaccinations. It is dated 2-18 August 1939.
