Draft letter from Brian Houghton Hodgson to W.W. Hunter in which he writes that he assumes from Hunter's letter that he is in India and hopes that it is in the hills. He writes about the deputation and about the different parties involved in the discussion regarding Nepal and surrounding regions. Hodgson mentions Campbell and Gridlestone, Mr Wright and the Governor-General. In a postscript Hodgson reveals that he has just found out that Nepal is again at war with Tibet and wonders how the Chinese authorities will react. Wood, G.L.B., MP, Secretary of State for India, in which he writes with his concerns regarding a large collection of Manuscripts from Kathmandu concerning civil and natural history and Buddhism, which have been inspected by Mr Hall, India Office Librarian. He collected these to inform more about Tibet and wishes to tender to Sir C.Wood that they be deposited in the India Office Library. Handwritten, 4 sides, dated 2 August 1864.

He hopes that Alcock will have returned to town in time for the deputation to the Duke. He will collect the volume and take it to Sir Louis Mallet who also wishes to see them. He agrees the deputation went well and thanks Mallet that he will correspond privately with Lord Northbrook concerning Nepal and Sikkim. Hodgson writes that his experience of the conflicting opinions regarding Pekin, Lhasa and Kathmandu, but that in his opinion, it is time to try to remove the alleged obstacles. He is concerned regarding the Russian influence. He reminds that the Ghurkhas are dependent allies and continues to lay out his opinion on the situation.
