Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to George Buzzard, Parochial Office, Poland Street, in which the Council are challenging payment of the Parochial Rates on grounds that in 1849 the Society was exempt under an Act of Parliament. They have consulted Legal Council and expect to receive his opinion in next few days and will be in touch before the 27th. The Council regret the delay. (Found on page 187)

Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to Gideon Colquhoun and Lieutenant Colonel Borthwick to inform that the 9 guineas requested from them having not been paid, the names of the defaulters will be displayed in the Meeting Room of the Society. Also their names will be removed from the list of members unless the money is received by May 1851. (Found on page 137)

Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to G.K. Typaldos, Royal Library, Athens, to inform him that the items he requests have already been sent to the Royal Library via the Greek Consulate at the end of December 1847. Typaldos had requested a copy of H.H. Wilson's Sanskrit dictionary but unfortunately there were no spare copies so the Royal Asiatic Society cannot help. (Found on page 81)

Letter from Richard Clarke, Treasurer, to Henry Capper to inquire about the non-payment of subscriptions by his brother John Capper, Orientalist, who had been in Ceylon, but had returned to London, and became a Resident member but on subsequently returning to East had left without paying 2 years of subscriptions for 1854 and 1855. Capper is asked if he has authority to pay or if his brother's name should be removed from the list of members. (Found on page 240)
