Redhouse, Secretary, to Charles Knapp to inform, that having seen from one of Sotheby's catalogues that Mr Morley's books are up for auction, that some of these books were borrowed from Royal Asiatic Society library and should be returned. Also Morley was in arrears with his subscription and it is hoped that these arrears can be paid out of his estate. (Found on page 285)

Thouvenet, to inform that the Society receives books on oriental subjects and gives copies of its Journal in exchange to 100 societies including the Bibliotheque Imperiale at Paris. The French government publishes, from time to time, Oriental works including works by Botta and Oppert. The Society would appreciate if it could receive such valuable works. (Found on page 294)

Letter from James W. Redhouse, Secretary, to His Grace, the 4th Duke of Northumberland to inform that in the forthcoming May the Royal Asiatic Society has to elect a new President for three years. As a member, and as a rich nobleman, the Duke is asked if he would be prepared to serve though having previously refused this position. The Vice-Presidents will assist with 'the labours of office'. The money will be deposited at the London and Westminster Bank with three members of the Royal Asiatic Society acting as trustees. Mr Muir's name will also be added if he approves of this.
