Part of Royal Asiatic Society Governance: Correspondence Volume One

Letter from Richard Clarke, Secretary, to James Cosmo Melvill, Secretary, East India Company, in which the Council asks for permission from the East India Company to print the memoirs of Captain Felix Jones to accompany his map of the site of ancient Ninevah which is being engraved for the East India Company. The Royal Asiatic Society would supply copies to the East India Company and in return would like copies of the engraved map. The 'package' of memoir and map would be available for members and general circulation. This package in conjunction with 'the labour of Col. Rawlinson' is thought to be of real interest. Landseer, Southampton Street, Fitzroy Square to inform, that though the Council had permitted the reading of a paper before it had been submitted to them, thus breaching their own rule, they are not at liberty to allow a second breach and they therefore decline the proposed reading.
