Letter from the Museum of Manchester to Brian Houghton Hodgson to inform him of their conferment of Honorary Member of the Manchester Natural History Society and asking Hodgson to send his full name for the Diploma. The writer also asks for Hodgson's help after calling several times at the British Museum but being unable to see the items he would like. He wonders if Hodgson might be able to borrow them. Handwritten, 3 sides, dated 5 September 1845. With this letter is a news cutting telling of the new donation from Hodgson of 224 bird skins, making nearly 2000 different specimens that he has donated. Printed material, undated. A letter from the Selection Committee for the Gold Medal to the President of the Royal Asiatic Society to nominate Sir Hamilton Gibb for the award of the Medal. They had considered 6 candidates and the Committee recommends that these names be put on record for the use of further committees. Their second choice was Sir Harold Bailey (see RAS TGM/26). The letter is handwritten and signed by the members of the Committee - John Burton-Page, Professor Edward Ullendorff and H.C. Shorto. Dated 26 June 1968. With this letter is a handwritten note to the Director recommending Sir Harold Bailey and a letter from E.H.S. Simmonds to John Burton-Page, also recommending Harold Bailey. This is typed and dated 14 June 1968.

Letter from the Maharajah of Nepal (Crown Prince Surendra) to Brian Houghton Hodgson on his leaving Nepal. He sends best wishes for personal wellbeing and progress, praises Hodgson for his knowledge and its benefit to Nepal, the Nepalese and the rulers of Nepal and also for maintaining peace and friendship between British India and Nepal. He acknowledges Hodgson and Bhimsen Thapa's role in maintaining a smooth relationship between British India and Nepal; both powers are claimed to be the great governments (badā sarkār) in the region. Hodgson's note on the back of the letter stating "Rajah of Nepal's farewell letter to B. H. Hodgson" but Surendra was not the King of Nepal at the time of Hodgson's departure from Nepal - he was acting only as Crown Prince. Handwritten in Hindi with official stamp, Hodgson's note in English, dated December 1843.
