Letter from Baron Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt to Brian Houghton Hodgson to Introduce Dr. Schlagintweit and his friend and request for help for them for their intended survey relating to physical geography, metrology and geology of Himalaya. Request for the same letters of recommendation as Dr. Hooker was privileged to have during his research and survey. Hodgson is addressed as long time friend to Humboldt, and Dr. Schlagintweit is referred to as a young friend and promising scholar of geography, geology, and metrology etc. Letter is attached with original envelope with Hodgson's note of received date, i.e. 20th April 1855. (Hodgson mss. in the British library have a draft copy of Hodgson's letter written in Nepali to the King of Nepal requesting for help for Dr. Schlagintweit in the same way help had previously been given to Dr. Hooker.)
