• Letter from Brian Durrans, Deputy Keeper, Museum of Mankind, to Sir Cyril Philips, Royal Asiatic Society, to ask if the Society would consider adding its voice to the other bodies in a letter expressing concern regarding the fate of the Horniman Museum. He notes that the Society's Otto Samson lecture links it to the Horniman Museum where Samson was a curator. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 15 February 1988. With this letter is a copy of the letter to be sent to the Secretary of State, dated 15 February 1988.

A handwritten manuscript detailing the history of the Gujarat sultanate in India giving accounts of the reigns of Muzzafar Shah I, Muhammad Shah I, Ahmad Shah I, Muhammad Shah II, Ahmad Shah II, Daud Shah, Mahmud Shah, Muzaffar Shah II, Sikandar Shah, Mahmud Shah II, Bahadur Shah, Miran Muhammad Shah I, Mahmud Shah III, Ahmad Shah III, and Muzaffar Shah III. The author of the manuscript has not been traced.

A handwritten manuscript of the Grammaire Tagalog by Aristide Marre with a Vocabulaire tagalog-francais-anglais by Aristide Marre and Isabelle Pinches. With these are the original housing envelope, two explanatory labels and a letter to request the publication of these works.

The material consists of a printed letter advertising the Friends of the Palestine Museums, and correspondence with the Royal Asiatic Society. Specifically:

• Printed letter from the Friends of the Palestine Museums explaining the purpose of the organisation and inviting others to join. It is undated and unsigned but is headed with a list of officers and members of Council of the organisation.
• Note from Colonel Hoysted, Secretary to Royal Asiatic Society, to Sir Edward Maclagan, President, to ask whether the Friends of the Palestine Museums should be brought up at the forthcoming Council meeting of the Society. The same piece of paper bears a reply from Maclagan suggesting there might be items that the Royal Asiatic Society could lend to the Friends of the Palestine Museums. Handwritten, dated 26 May 1932.
• Letter from Colonel Hoysted, Secretary to Royal Asiatic Society, to The Organising Secretary, Friends of the Palestine Museums, to state that the Society would wish to support the Friends and that he personally would be happy to help. He will send a list of the Society's members and will look through the Library for articles that may be of interest. Typed, dated 24 May 1932.
• Letter from F.J. Duncan, Organising Secretary, Friends of the Palestine Museums, to the Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to thank for his letter and to ask if he may make an appointment to meet with Hoysted. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 30 May [1932].
• Letter from F.J. Duncan to Colonel Hoysted to thank him for the card with Dr Zwemet's address and to also thank regarding advice given. Handwritten with printed letterhead, dated 3 June [1932].

Fragment of the epic poem, Valmiki Ramayana, in Kanarese - Cantos 3-5. The poem is written in ink in Kanarese with a pencil annotation in English identifying the manuscript.

Correspondence between the Foundation for Science and Technology and the Royal Asiatic Society. These are:

• Correspondence between the Foundation for Science and Technology and the Royal Asiatic Society concerning the Society subscribing to the Foundation. Four letters and one form, dated 18 May 1990 -12 November 1990.
• Letter from K. Lawrey, Learned Societies Liaison Officer, Foundation for Science and Technology to J. A. Payne, Royal Asiatic Society, to send the final version of the guidance paper approved by the Charity Commission on Safeguarding Treasures. Dated 2 September 1997. The paper is with the letter.
• Letter from K. Lawrey, Learned Societies Liaison Officer, Foundation for Science and Technology to the Chief Executive/Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to ask for letters of nomination for a vacancy on the Foundation's Council. Dated 1 February 2000.

A copy of the foundation epigraph from the Jama Masjid, Ahmedabad. This is written in black ink on paper which has been mounted onto cloth. The epigraph translates as: 'This lofty edifice and extensive mosque was built by the slave who trusts and returns and has recourse to the mercy of God who is kind, who alone is to be worshipped according to the Qur'an verse: "Verily, the Mosques belong to God; worship no one else with Him" - by the slave who trusts in the helping God, Nasiruddunya waddin Abul Fath Ahmad Shah, son of Muhammad Shah, son of Muzaffar, the king. The date of its erection from the flight of the Prophet (God's blessings on him) is the first day of Safar (may the month end successfully and Victoriously) of the year 827 [4 January 1424]. (This translation was undertaken by H. Blochmann in his article 'Eight Arabic and Persian Inscriptions', Indian Antiquary 1875, pp. 289-293.)
