A collection of palm-size printed chanting lyrics booklets, utaibon (謡本), of the Hosho school (宝生流) of Noh, a form of traditional Japanese theatre. The booklets, in thread binding with yellow paper covers, are divided into two sets, including 10 booklets for uchi-hyakuban (内百番), referring to common chants, and 11 booklets soto-hyakuban (外百拾番), referring to uncommon chants. A title label pasted onto the cover of each booklet indicates the chants included in it. There are lyrics for 220 chants in total. Each booklet measures 8.8 cm (w) x 12 cm (h).

Originally housed in a wooden box with two compartments. Handwritten RAS label on the lid reads: ‘Japanese Print. 2 collections of Po[sins]. Taka Sago and Ho Show Kawa’ and on the underside of the lid is a printed list of all chants included in the booklets. The wooden box is probably made specifically to house the booklets after they came into the possession of the Library as the divider in the box is annotated ‘division’.

James Forlong bequeathed money to the Royal Asiatic Society to come to the Society upon the death of his wife. The money was to be used towards the establishment of an 'Imperial Oriental College or School' and in particular for the promotion of lectures. This fund was to be administered by the Royal Asiatic Society. With the opening of the School of Oriental Studies, London, it was necessary to negotiate with the School about the use of the Fund. These papers consist of administrative documents and correspondence concerned with both the inauguration of the Forlong Fund and its continuing application for lectures and scholarships. Material concerned with the Iran Society and the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with it. These are:

• Letter from Michael Noel-Clarke, Chairman, The Iran Society, to Professor Anthony Stockwell, President, Royal Asiatic Society to inquire regarding possibilities of cooperation between the two societies and to include a copy of the programme for 2002-2003 and a history of the Iran Society written by Sir Denis Wright. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 21 October 2002. With the letter are the programme and history.
• Copy of an email from Professor Anthony Stockwell, President, Royal Asiatic Society to Michael Noel-Clarke, Chairman, The Iran Society, to report on talking with colleagues in the Royal Asiatic Society regarding a possible collaboration for a lecture. Typed, dated 15 November 2002.
• Letter from Michael Noel-Clarke, Chairman, The Iran Society, to Adrian Thomas, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society to send a copy of the Iran Society Journal which has been relaunched. Typed with printed letterhead, dated 12 January 2003. A copy of the Journal for September 2002 is with the letter.
• Copies of emails between Michael Noel-Clarke, Chairman, The Iran Society, and Professor Anthony Stockwell, President, Royal Asiatic Society concerning a possible conference on Islamic gardens. Typed, dated 25 February 2003.
• Letter from Michael Noel-Clarke, Chairman, The Iran Society, to Adrian Thomas, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, concerning the publication of Sir Denis Wright's Collected Essays. Typed, dated 24 June 2003.

"Introduction on the Elements of the Afghan language" which explains about the two divisions of Afghans and their languages, the different tribes in various locations. It consider the alphabet, vocabulary and grammar of the language. This manuscript is 13 pages on loose folded sheets.

The International Union of Orientalists was founded in September 1951 in Istanbul at the International Congress of Orientalists. It was renamed in 1973 as the International Union for Oriental and Asian Studies. This material covers the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with the Union in the time period 1951-1977.

Material Concerned with the International Fund for the Archaeological Exploration of India. These are:

• List of the Executive Committees in the represented countries of the International Fund for the Archaeological Exploration of India and a letter from Lord Reay, President, International Fund for the Archaeological Exploration of India, to set forward a scheme for raising funds for archaeological work in India and to seek approval for such a scheme. Printed material, 2 copies, letter dated February 1901.
• "Memorandum" concerning the Government of India's proposal for decentralising various Government departments and how that could affect Archaeology. Printed, undated [c.1902].

The International Congress of Orientalists, initiated in Paris in 1873, was an international conference of Orientalists. It was later renamed as the International Congress of Human Sciences in Asia and North Africa and then as the International Congress of Asian and North African Studies. This material covers the interaction of the Royal Asiatic Society with the Congress in the time period 1889 to 1993.

The Fifth International Congress of Linguists took place in Brussels from 28 August to 2 September 1939. This material contains correspondence and printed material connected to this Congress. These are:

• First Circular for the Fifth International Congress of Linguists giving details of the Conference and the topics to be addressed. Written in French, dated 20 October 1938.
• Postcard from H.W. Bailey to Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to inform him that Bailey was intending to attend the Congress. Handwritten, dated 12 January 1939.
• Letter from Col. Hoysted, Secretary, Royal Asiatic Society, to the Secretary, International Congress of Linguists, to inform him that Professor H.W. Bailey will represent the Society at the Congress. Typed, dated 26 January 1939.

The International Congress of Libraries and Documentation Centres was held in Brussels from the 11-18 September 1955. It included the Third International Congress of Libraries, the Fourth Congress of Music Libraries, and the Twenty-Second International Conference of Documentation. This material consists of the printed pamphlet entitled "Notice No. 1, September 1954", giving details of the Organizing Committees, the History and Aims of the Congress, the Programmes for the Congress etc. The material is printed in English and French.

Three items connected with the International Congress of Geography in Warsaw held on the 25-31 August 1934 under the auspices of the International Geographical Union. These are:

• First Circular for the International Congress with a letter from Stanislaw Pawlowski, General Secretary, and Eugenjusz Romer, inviting participants to the Congress. The circular also covers Terms of the Congress, the Themes of the Meetings, and Excursions. A handwritten annotation notes "Resolved on 12.10.33 not to nominate a representative".
• Bulletin D'Adhésion for the Congress for becoming a Member of the Congress, taking part in the discussion, and taking part in the excursions. Printed in French.
• Second Circular for the International Congress giving further information about the Congress, the subjects for discussion and the excursions.
